We are delighted to present our collaboration with the Hong Kong Federation of Senior Citizens to reimagine the eElderly Portal as an innovative online virtual platform—designed to meet the evolving needs and aspirations of older adults and their caregivers—positioning it as Hong Kong’s leading senior portal.

Key project objectives:

• Build a vibrant virtual community: To develop a safe, engaging online hub for older adults and their caregivers, supporting interactive and enjoyable activities—including live online classes, blended (online + offline) courses, community events, video chats, and in-depth discussions.

• Expand functionality: Enhance the existing eElderly Portal into a comprehensive virtual centre for seniors, offering rich experiences such as literature workshops, digital literacy courses, health talks, virtual travel and museum tours, current affairs forums, and spontaneous chat sessions.

• Foster NGO collaboration: To support active ageing and holistic wellbeing, we partnered with multiple NGOs. This collaboration enabled us to design the Virtual Centre as a unique convergence of information and services—encouraging collective action across the sector.

• Broaden social networks: Transform the platform into an accessible virtual hub—especially for less socially active middle-aged and older adults who may not attend traditional senior centres or social groups. To achieve this, we launched a Digital Mentor Programme, training mid-career and retired individuals to serve as mentors. These mentors actively moderate content, answer questions, initiate discussion topics, and curate uplifting, inspirational ‘Silver Market’ forums within the Virtual Centre.

Outcomes achieved through collaboration:

• A lively community: The redesigned Virtual Centre provides a dynamic and secure digital space where older adults and caregivers can interact, learn, and make new friends. Diverse activities and discussions ensure meaningful engagement for all participants.

• Integrated services: The Virtual Centre consolidates resources, courses, workshops, and social opportunities into a single, easy-to-use platform—supporting active ageing and overall wellbeing.

• Collaborative network: By partnering with multiple NGOs, we strengthened cross-sectoral coordination and shared impact. The platform acts as a central hub for organisations to exchange resources, expertise, and initiatives—amplifying reach across the senior ecosystem.

• Expanded social connections: The Virtual Centre successfully encouraged socially withdrawn older adults to broaden their networks. The Digital Mentor Programme fostered interpersonal connection while ensuring users receive guidance and support from experienced peers.
